UXArmy User Advocates are people like you and me who sign on to test websites and apps in development--sometimes even before they’re released to the public--and to provide constructive feedback on how easy or friendly they are to use.
You don’t need special technical expertise. We’re seeking consumers with a range of technology experience to provide constructive feedback on the user friendliness and ease of use of websites, apps, chatbots, and more.
Your opinion is important! We’re not looking for people who say good/bad, like/dislike.
You should be willing to provide your suggestions on how an app or website could have worked better for you.
You must be 18 years of age or older with access to desktop or mobile devices.
To be a mobile tester, you’ll need an Internet connection, access to wifi, and an Android or iOS smartphone/tablet/phablet. Otherwise, you’ll need access to a desktop/laptop computer, microphone (built-in or accessory) and an internet connection.
You’ll need to complete a one-time installation of UXArmy’s testing software to your device. Then, once you’re invited to take a test, follow the instructions provided. For mobile app testing and task-based tests, your screen is recorded while you take the test—so do not access any confidential information during the test. Once done, you submit your test. A complete submission requires uploading your screen recording to the UXArmy server, which will automatically happen when (and only when) you’re connected to wifi. (We do this to ensure we don’t eat into your 3G/4G mobile data limit.)
Occasionally we recruit User Advocates to participate in in-person user research. If we choose you, we will follow up with instructions on your role.
We pay you for taking a test and submitting your comments and suggestions along with the required recordings. Screen recording is required for most tests, voice recording for some. The instructions will tell you what’s required.
Compensation varies depending on the test you’re selected for. We offer monetary compensation as well as points-based rewards. Incentives for in-person user research are generally higher, because you may be required to travel to the location where the user study is conducted, and the time commitment is greater.
We pay our User Advocates via PayPal, and use other electronic means (such as e-gift and Alipay) mainly in countries where PayPal is not widely used. You will receive your payment within 7 days after completing a website or app test. (This waiting period allows us to ensure the quality of your recording). A test is only considered complete when your screen recording is uploaded, so make sure you connect to wifi after you complete the test.
Payment is commensurate with the complexity of the task or study. For task-based tests that record your think-out-loud audio and video, average compensation is $10. For standard surveys, average compensation is $5. In-person interviews and user research average $100, and payment varies depending on length and complexity of study and user demographic.
We have in place algorithms that check on feedback from the UXArmy User Advocates panel and ensure that feedback benefits businesses. Additionally, validations are also in place to ensure that users do not create multiple accounts to earn credit without giving additional value to businesses. Dishonesty in providing feedback may render your account deactivated or banned, and credits forfeited if evidence has been validated by our management team.
